Youth Concurrent Disorders Coordinator

The Youth Concurrent Disorders Coordinator role encompasses prevention, intervention, and treatment/referrals for  youth aged 13-18 who are struggling with concurrent disorders (substance use issues + mental health issues) and live in the qathet Regional District or Powell River.

Referrals can be made by the youth directly or by any professional or parent/guardian via the attached referral form.

Using a strengths-based and harm reduction focus, the concurrent disorders coordinator works with directly with youth and local professionals to develop resilience as well as healthy peer and support networks. Further, the concurrent disorders coordinator supports youth to enhance their mental health coping skills and increased their knowledge on harm reduction while providing support for recovery at any stage of the change model.

In addition, the concurrent disorders coordinator can provide community programming for schools, youth events and youth groups. Further, interventions such counselling and resource information are available as well as referrals to addictions treatment programs.

Criteria for referral:

  • 13 -18
  • Powell River/qathet RD resident
  • Substance use and mental health concerns which are impacting daily functioning, health, family, and/or school success.
